Mafia 3 30 FPS Lock - How to fix it (20)

Mafia 3 isn’t officialy out yet, but some streamers and members of the press have received early copies. While they’re slowly trudging through the game at the moment, there’s one thing they agree on – the PC version has a frame limit. It works with a FPS lock that cannot be removed from the in-game settings. In this guide, we’re going to show you how to remove Mafia 3 30 FPS lock, once there is a solution.

How to unlock Mafia 3 framerate

  • No FPS Cap Mode – Removes the 30fps cap on the game. Contains recompiled game exe and launcher exe with edited framelimiter parameters. Will cause crashes for some people because the engine loses stability above the cap the developer imposed.
  • Ini file changes – PC being what it is, it might be that the setting can be easily changed by editing an .ini file Unfortunately, editing .ini file hasn’t changed anything.
  • Patch coming this weekend– There is a statement on the official website:
“We currently have a patch running here at the studio that includes 30, 60, and unlimited frames-per-second options in the video menu, among other improvements for the PC version of Mafia III. We’re verifying the patch now to ensure everything is working as expected. If everything goes well, we expect the update to go live this weekend. We will be keeping the PC community up-to-date on the status of the patch throughout the weekend and thank you for all the feedback!”
  • Improvements – While you are waiting for the patch you can improve your gameplay by turning vsync off, and reducing anti-aliasing to low (it’ll make it less blurry).
We’ll certainly update the guide with any solutions that come up as soon as we spot them. Hopefully new patch will make us all forget this ever happened.

Errors & Problems in Mafia 3 (17)

Mafia 3 is out, and the PC version has had a troublesome start. Players are already complaining about crashes, poor performance and other issues. Some of them are easy to avoid once you know what’s the problem, while others require patching. In this guide, we’re going to show you a list of known errors & problems in Mafia 3, how to fix or avoid them.

Car won’t start in Mafia 3

This is definitely a glitch. Exit the car then re-enter, after that you’ll be able to start the car.

Frame limit on PC

The keen-eyed players have discovered that the PC version is locked at 30 FPS. The community is at a loss for words – nobody expected something like this to happen. There’s no solution for this, but we’re keeping an eye on the situation. We’re going to write everything we find out about this to our Mafia 3 30 FPS Lock guide.

Mafia 3 Crashes

Some players have reported the game crashing to desktop, sometimes even several times in the space of an hour. If this happens to you, all we can suggest at this time is that you update your graphics card drivers, if you haven’t already. Other than that, all you can do is wait for a patch.

Really blurry image in Mafia 3

A certain number of players are complaining that the image is too blurry, even after disabling Motion Blur. If this happens to you, you could:
  • Try restarting the game.
  • Disable Depth of Field in the in-game options.
  • Lower the anti-aliasing settings. It will make the game more sharp.

Mouse cursor visible in-game

A handful of people are reporting being able to see their mouse cursor in-game. If you have this issue, you should first try to move it to the top right corner. This can sometimes make it disappear. If it doesn’t, try alt-tabbing then going back to the game. Finally, you could make the game run in a window, then revert back to full screen.

Audio desync & cutscene stutter

Some players (on both PC and console) have reported audio going out of sync with what’s happening on the screen, along with stuttering during cutscenes. If you’re on PC, you could try lowering the video quality. Turning off Vsync, in particular, helps greatly with these things. Aside from that, waiting for a patch is all you can do.

Mafia 3 21:9 not working

PC users with extra wide monitors are having a tough time right now. The game does not work properly in 21:9 resolutions – like 2560 x 1080 or 3440×1440. A part of the screen is always cut off, leaving the game literally unplayable.

Can’t close tutorial prompts in Mafia 3

Sometimes, people get locked in during the tutorial. The game starts throwing up tutorial prompts which won’t go away even after they press the appropriate buttons. If you’re using a keyboard, but you have a controller plugged in, try using that. If you’re using a controller, the solution is to use the keyboard when this happens. Once the tutorial is over, you can switch back to the control method of your choice.

Camera won’t stop spinning on PC

Some players have reported having the camera spin really fast when they’re trying to play with a gamepad on PC. There’s no good solution for this. The only one that works is to unplug it and play with a mouse and keyboard instead.

Mafia 3 freeze at soup kitchen

If the game freezes for you in the soup kitchen part of the intro/tutorial, just restart it. This should kickstart it into working. People have reported having several freezes here in succession – keep restarting until it works itself out. If you don’t have the time or the patience, you’ll have to wait for a patch, sadly.

Mafia 3 borderless window

There is no option to play in a borderless window in the in-game menu. There’s a workaround you could try instead:
  1. Right click on the game in your Steam Library.
  2. Choose Properties.
  3. Select Set Launch Options under the General tab.
  4. Write “-windowed -noborder -h (your resolution height) -w (your resolution width)” without the quotation marks
  5. Save and launch.

Mafia 3 cops won’t stop searching

A number of players have reported blue circles not disappearing from the map for days (in-game time). It’s a bug. The cops should stop searching and go away within a few minutes of real time. Hopefully a patch fixes this soon.

Mafia 3 won’t start

If the game doesn’t even start for you, try launching it using the .exe file, instead of the Steam client. You’ll most probably get an error message. You can then search the internet using the name of the error. One that has been reported is solved by updating Windows.

Mafia 3 Reviews round-up (16)

Mafia 3 is the third installment in the Mafia series developed by Hangar 13 and published by 2K Games. This soon-to-arrive package offers varied content for everyone in the Bordeux open world. The game will let you drive different cars around a city, gain control over districts, collect new weapons, learn more about main characters through main and side missions, find collectibles – mostly magazines and posters (including Playboy magazines), customize your vehicle, try Fight Club, rob stores and much more. Mafia 3 is coming in just a few hours, but we can’t say the same for Mafia 3 reviews.

2K Games has successfully built a lot of hype around Mafia III with cinematic trailers and videos, thus, their fans were surprised with the decision not to send out Mafia III review copies before release. According to IGN and Polygon, representatives from 2K Games decided not to provide advance review copies to anyone.

Mafia’s publisher, 2K Games, has declined our request for a pre-release copy of Mafia 3 to play ahead of time – and, in fact, does not intend to provide advance review copies to anyone.

Polygon was informed via a phone call from a 2K representative yesterday evening that 2K Games has decided not make the game available to press from any outlet prior to its release.

While we are waiting for Mafia 3 reviews, we decided to share with you our thoughts after 10 hours of gameplay.

Mafia 3 Pros

  • You can enjoy the open world from the moment you start the game
  • The map is huge divided into 10 districts.
  • Main and side missions have great stories.
  • Animations for using guns and knives are well done, very realistic.
  • Although finding all collectibles don’t reward you with any cool stuff, you’ll find some of them pretty interesting!
  • Music tracks are amazing.
  • It’s great to feed alligators with corps.
  • You’ll have a lot of fun especially when you enter the places / zones that are only for white people

Mafia 3 Cons

  • Mission objectives are repetitive (go there and kill someone).
  • Stealth mechanic is not well implemented, and you can easily take advantage of it.
  • Small number of different weapons.
  • You can’t customize Lincoln, you can only get upgrades that increase health or let you carry more ammo
  • Frame rate is terrible at the moment (30 FPS), but they promised to fix it soon.
  • Lock picking mechanism is too easy.

How to unlock side missions in Mafia 3 (15)

Mafia 3 side missions are optional tasks you can do in order to help your underbosses. Each one of your lieutenants will have their own chain of side missions, which can help you develop your relationship, improve your mobs standing and get cool new items. They aren’t available from the start, though, so you don’t have to worry about not seeing them as soon as you start playing. In this guide, we’re going to show you how to unlock Mafia 3 side missions.

Mafia 3 Side Missions

As soon as you’ve recruited your first underboss, you’ll be able to see the objectives of their first side mission. But you won’t be able to play it. It’s most certainly a bug – the game shows it to you, but you can’t play it.

Instead, you’ll have to wait until you’ve finished your first sit-down, in the main story mission An Emotional Attachment. After you’ve calmed the passions of your lieutenants and made them promise to work with each other, each will be awarded a district of their own.

  • Burke will get Pointe Verdun, where you can start the IRA Don’t Ask carjacking side missions.
  • Cassandra will be stationed in Delray Hollow, which is where you should go to begin the .45 In My Hand chain.
  • Vito will get River Row, where you get to play a hitman in I Need a Favor.

Completing these missions will earn you money and, more importantly, favor with your underbosses. In order to progress, you’ll have to assign a district to the lieutenant in question after a several side mission. This will unlock further quests, and let you develop your relationship even more. What’s great is that they’re tied into the broader story, so it will never feel like you’re wasting time – you’ll always be actively working towards taking down the Marcanos.

Testing the Shocks Achievement / Trophy | Mafia 3 (14)

Testing the Shocks is an achievement in Mafia 3. You can unlock it by doing a 50 meter jump with your car, and landing on the wheels. It can be tough to get, since you need to find a suitable spot, and a car that’s fast enough. If you wreck the car while landing, or land on anything other than the wheels, you won’t unlock the trophy. In this guide, we’re going to show you how to earn the Testing the Shocks achievement in Mafia 3.

Mafia 3 Testing The Shocks Trophy

First you’ll need an apropriate car. Any sportscar will do, basically, but the best models we’ve tried out were:
  • De’leon Stiletto
  • Samson Duke
  • Delizia 58
  • Smith Moray MX100 (preorder bonus)
Apart from the preorder one, you can get these by skulking around Fresco Fields, the most afluent neighborhood in the game. Sportscars spawn there regularly, so you won’t have to wait for long to find one. If you’re not in a hurry, waiting until you unlock a great car and upgrade it all the way would make the whole thing much easier.

Then you’ll need a good spot. The construction yard in Frisco Fields was good enough for us, but you could use any ramp you like. Go to the end of the road that leads to the ramp, in order to have enough time to accelerate. Keep to the left side of the street. You’ll have to start turning left slowly, before the intersection. Watch out for the traffic. Once you’re near the ramp, try to hit its left side – the right has a bump in front of it.

If you’re going fast enough (105 in our case), and you approach the jump properly, you should make it in no time. Don’t stress if you don’t make it the first time. Practice makes perfect.
